The M90/A90 Trunk Road (Junction 2) (Temporary Speed Restrictions) Order 2026
The Scottish Ministers make the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 2(1), 4(1) and 14(1)(a) and (4) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, which will have the effect of imposing a temporary 40mph and 50mph speed restriction on the following lengths of road:
50mph
- That length of the M90/A90 Edinburgh – Fraserburgh Trunk Road being the northbound carriageway from a point 495 metres or thereby north of the northbound off slip road at Junction 1b (Ferrytoll) to a point 765 metres or thereby north of the northbound on slip road at Junction 2 (Masterton), a distance of 4.0 kilometres or thereby.
- That length of the M90/A90 Edinburgh – Fraserburgh Trunk Road being the southbound carriageway from a point 1.68 kilometres or thereby north of its junction with the southbound off slip road at Junction 2 (Masterton) to a point 320 metres or thereby north of its junction with the southbound off slip road at J1b (Ferrytoll), a distance of 4.35 kilometres or thereby.
- That length of the M90/A90 Edinburgh – Fraserburgh Trunk Road being the northbound on slip road at Junction 1b (Ferrytoll), a distance of 530 metres or thereby.
- That length of the M90/A90 Edinburgh – Fraserburgh Trunk Road being the southbound off slip road at Junction 1b (Ferrytoll), a distance of 365 metres or thereby.
- That length of the A823(M) Pitreavie Spur Trunk Road from its junction with Pitreavie Roundabout eastwards then northwards continue on to the northbound on slip road at Junction 2 (Masterton) to its junction with the northbound main carriageway of the M90, a distance of 2.0 kilometres or thereby.
40mph
- That length of the M90/A90 Edinburgh – Fraserburgh Trunk Road being the northbound carriageway from a point 150 metres or thereby north of its junction with the northbound on slip road at Junction 1b (Ferrytoll) to a point 765 metres or thereby north of its junction with the northbound on slip road at Junction 2 (Masterton), a distance of 3.2 kilometres or thereby.
- That length of the M90/A90 Edinburgh – Fraserburgh Trunk Road being the southbound carriageway from a point 880 metres or thereby north of its junction with the southbound off slip road at Junction 2 (Masterton) to a point 320 metres or thereby north of its junction with the southbound off slip road at J1b (Ferrytoll), a distance of 3.55 kilometres or thereby.
- That length of the M90/A90 Edinburgh – Fraserburgh Trunk Road being the northbound off slip road at Junction 1c (Admiralty), a distance of 270 metres or thereby.
- That length of the M90/A90 Edinburgh – Fraserburgh Trunk Road being the northbound on slip road at Junction 1c (Admiralty), a distance of 175 metres or thereby.
- That length of the M90/A90 Edinburgh – Fraserburgh Trunk Road being the northbound off slip road at Junction 2 (Masterton) from its junction with the northbound main carriageway of the M90 to a point 615 metres or thereby east of Pitreavie Roundabout, a distance of 1.0 kilometres or thereby.
- That length of the M90/A90 Edinburgh – Fraserburgh Trunk Road being the northbound on slip road at Junction 2 (Masterton) from a point 1.0 kilometre or thereby east of Pitreavie Roundabout to its junction with the northbound main carriageway of the M90, a distance of 1.0 kilometre or thereby.
- That length of the M90/A90 Edinburgh – Fraserburgh Trunk Road being the southbound off slip road at Junction 2 (Masterton), a distance of 1.4 kilometres or thereby.
- That length of the M90/A90 Edinburgh – Fraserburgh Trunk Road being the southbound on slip road at Junction 2 (Masterton) from the point it diverges from the M90 northbound on slip road at Junction 2 (Masterton) to the point it merges with the M90 southbound carriageway, a distance of 655 metres or thereby.
- That length of the M90/A90 Edinburgh – Fraserburgh Trunk Road being the southbound off slip road at Junction 1c (Admiralty), a distance of 295 metres or thereby.
- That length of the M90/A90 Edinburgh – Fraserburgh Trunk Road being the southbound on slip road at Junction 1c (Admiralty), a distance of 270 metres or thereby.
The Order, which is required because works are being proposed to be executed on or near the road will be in operation on 2 February until 30 September 2026 and will only have effect in relation to such part or parts of the length of road as is indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.
The Order does not apply to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations, or vehicles being used in an emergency for coastguard purposes.
Alternative routes
An alternative route for traffic is not required.
