The M8/A8/A89 Trunk Road Junction 15 (Townhead) to Junction 18 (Charing Cross) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic and Temporary 40mph Speed Restriction) Order 2021

The Scottish Ministers give notice that they have made the above Order under sections 2(1) and (2), 4(1) and 14(1)(b) and (4) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 which will have the effect of:

temporarily prohibiting traffic on the following lengths of the M8/A8/A89 Edinburgh – Greenock Trunk Road:

1. The eastbound on slip road at Junction 17 (Great Western Road), a distance of 230 metres or thereby.

2. The westbound on slip road at Junction 17 (Great Western Road), a distance of 400 metres or thereby.

3. The eastbound on slip road at Junction 18 (Charing Cross), a distance of  400 metres or thereby.

4. The westbound off slip road at Junction 18 (Charing Cross), a distance of 400 metres or thereby.

5. The westbound on slip road from Springburn Road, Junction 15 (Townhead), a distance of 500 metres or thereby.

6. The westbound off slip road at Junction 17 (West Graham Street), a distance of 200 metres or thereby.

and temporarily prohibiting traffic and restricting the speed of vehicles to 40mph on the following lengths of the M8/A8/A89 Edinburgh – Greenock Trunk Road:

7. The westbound carriageway from Junction 15 (Townhead) to Junction 18 (Charing Cross), a distance of 2.3 kilometres or thereby.

8. The eastbound carriageway of the from Junctions 18 (Charing Cross) to Junction 16 (Craighall), a distance of 2.2 kilometres or thereby.

9. The westbound on slip link road at Junction 18 (Charing Cross) between its junction with the A82, Great Western Road and its junction with the A804, New City Road, a distance of 100 metres or thereby.

10. The westbound carriageway from Junction 17 (West Graham Street) to Phoenix on slip road, a distance of 30 metres or thereby.

The Order, which is required because of the likelihood of danger to the public, or of serious damage to the road, which is not attributable to works will be in operation from 23 April 2021 until 30 September 2021 and will only have effect in relation to such part or parts of the length of road as is indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.

The Order does not apply to vehicles being used in an emergency for fire brigade, ambulance, police or coastguard purposes; vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations; or vehicles being used in an emergency for coastguard purposes.
