The M8/A8 Trunk Road (Edinburgh to Greenock) (Temporary Prohibition of Specified Turns and Temporary Prohibition on Use of Road) Order 2019

The Scottish Ministers give notice that they have made the above Order under sections 2(1) and (2), 4(1) and 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, temporarily prohibiting turns and temporarily prohibiting traffic on the following lengths of trunk road:

Prohibition of specified turns

That length of the M8/A8 Edinburgh to Greenock Trunk Road being the westbound and eastbound carriageways from a distance 10 metres or thereby east of its junction with Fore Street, Port Glasgow to a distance 70 metres or thereby west of Brown Street Roundabout, a distance of 1.3 kilometres or thereby, from making the following turns:

  1. The right turn from the eastbound carriageway of the M8/A8 Greenock – Edinburgh Trunk Road into Fore Street, Port Glasgow.
  2. The left turn from the westbound carriageway of the M8/A8 Greenock – Edinburgh Trunk Road into Fore Street, Port Glasgow.

Prohibition on use of road

  1. That length of the M8/A8 Edinburgh – Greenock Trunk Road being the dedicated left lane from Greenock Road, westbound, at Brown Street Roundabout to Brown Street for a distance of 30 metres or thereby.
  2. That length of the M8/A8 Edinburgh – Greenock Trunk Road being the dedicated straight ahead lane on Greenock Road, eastbound to Brown Street Roundabout to Brown Street for a distance of 70 metres or thereby.
  3. That length of the M8/A8 Edinburgh – Greenock Trunk Road being the dedicated left lane from Greenock Road, westbound, to the Comet Road Slip Road on the Comet Roundabout a distance of 100 metres or thereby.
  4. That length of the M8/A8 Edinburgh – Greenock Trunk Road being the dedicated right lane from Greenock Road, eastbound, to the Comet Road slip road on the Comet Roundabout a distance of 65 metres or thereby.
     

The Order, which is required to facilitate the Orange walk event will be in operation from 29 June until 30 June 2019. The prohibition will only be in force from 10:00 to 16:00 but will only have effect in relation to such part or parts of the length of road as is indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.

The Order does not apply to vehicles while being used in an emergency for fire brigade, ambulance, police or coastguard purposes or vehicles while being used for facilitating the holding of the relevant event.

Alternative routes

Alternative route for traffic during the restrictions is not required.
