The A9 Trunk Road (Kessock Bridge) (Temporary Prohibition of Pedestrians and Temporary 30 mph Speed Restriction) Order 2022

The Scottish Ministers hereby give notice that they have made the above Order under sections 2(1) and (2), 4(1) and 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, which will have the effect of temporarily prohibiting pedestrians and temporarily restricting speed to 30mph on that length of the M9 / A9 Edinburgh – Stirling – Thurso Trunk Road from a point 100 metres south of the south abutment of the Kessock Bridge, Inverness, in a general north westerly direction, to a point 100 metres north of the north abutment of the Kessock Bridge, a distance of 1.27 kilometres or thereby.

The Order, which is required to facilitate that holding of a Charity Zip-Line Event and enable members of the public to watch that event, comes into force on 2 September and ceases on 5 September.

No prohibition on pedestrians imposed by this Order applies to a person—

(a) while carrying out any duty in relation to the maintenance or improvement of the trunk road,

(b) while carrying out any duty in connection with the removal of any obstruction to traffic,

(c) while engaged in connection with ambulance, police or coastguard purposes, or for or in connection with the exercise of any function of the Scottish Fire and Rescue Services, or

(d) leaving a vehicle which is prevented from proceeding by circumstances beyond their control.

No speed restriction imposed by this Order applies to—

(a) vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations, or

(b) vehicles being used in an emergency for coastguard purposes.

Alternative Routes

An alternative route for traffic is not required.
