The A78 Trunk Road (Fairlie) (Temporary 20mph Speed Restriction) Order 2026
The Scottish Ministers give notice that they have made the above Order under sections 2(1), 4(1) and 14(1)(b) and (4) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984(a), which will have the effect of imposing temporary 20mph speed restriction on the length of the A78 Greenock - Prestwick Trunk Road at Fairlie from a point 78 metres or thereby south of the extended centre line of the junction with Craig Hill Place southwards to a point 35 metres or thereby south of the extended centre line of the junction with Glen Road, a distance of 832 metres or thereby.
The Order, which is required in the interest of road safety, will be in operation from 24th January 2026 until 24th July 2027, and will only have effect in relation to such part or parts of the length of road as is indicated by the appropriate traffic signs.
The Order does not apply to vehicles falling within regulation 3(4) of the Road Traffic Exemptions (Special Forces) (Variation and Amendment) Regulations 2011 when used in accordance with regulation 3(5) of those Regulations; or vehicles being used in an emergency for coastguard purposes.

UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 Compatibility Consideration and Narration of Statement of Compatibility
The Scottish Ministers have made the following statement regarding children’s rights.
“In accordance with section 23(2) of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (Incorporation) (Scotland) Act 2024 (the Act), the Scottish Ministers certify that, in their view, the A78 Trunk Road (Fairlie) (Temporary 20mph Speed Restriction) Order 2026 is compatible with the UNCRC requirements as defined by section 1(2) of the Act.”
