Smart, Digital, Integrated Ticketing and Payments - Delivery Strategy 2024

Transport Scotland oversees the strategic development of smart and integrated ticketing in Scotland. Since the previous Smart Delivery Strategy in 2018, the context and development of smart ticketing continues to evolve. New technologies are opening up more opportunities, and changing travel patterns following the Covid pandemic are advancing passengers' expectations of smart tickets, contactless payment and travel information. As such, a refreshed delivery strategy is required to reflect this, and has been informed by a smart and integrated ticketing survey we held in 2023 and on-going engagement with the industry and stakeholders. It details how we seek to deliver this vision and aims to bring all interested parties up to a common level of understanding of smart ticketing, in non-technical language, and to stimulate interest, discussion and feedback.
