Weekend motorists warned to expect delays on A8 at Shawhead

Weekend motorists are being warned to expect delays on the A8 east and westbound on approach to Shawhaed Junction, from Friday 5th to Monday 8th August 2016, as part of the £500m M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements Project.

The A8 carriageway will be reduced to one lane on approach to Shawhead Junction, alternating between the eastbound and westbound carriageways, from 20:00 hours Friday to 06:00 hours Monday. During this time, access to the slip roads at Shawhead, east and westbound, will be maintained.

This traffic management is required to facilitate works to widen the bridge at Shawhead Junction.

Transport Scotland is working with the contractor to ensure these works are completed as quickly as possible, however, delays are expected. Road users are advised to routinely check the Transport Scotland and Traffic Scotland websites for updates on this key route between Glasgow and Edinburgh, to plan their journeys in advance and to look at taking an alternative route if possible.

When complete, the M8 M73 M74 Motorway Improvements Project will significantly reduce congestion across the central Scotland motorway network, shaving approximately 20 minutes off the daily commute from Glasgow to Edinburgh.
