Dunbar Pupils going places with smarter Eve Coaches

The bus firm in Dunbar, went smart earlier last year with some pupils, those entitled to free school transport, using their Young Scot National Entitlement Card (YSC) to access services.

Transport Scotland has worked with Eve Coaches to extend their smart ticketing offering by including pupils who currently have to purchase daily tickets.

From 20 January, all school pupils can add unlimited use within their travel zone for seven days to their YSC card. This will be beneficial to younger customers, students in particular, who already use smartcards extensively as it removes the need to carry cash for fares on a daily basis.

This development will be followed by the introduction of a 10 journey carnet smartcard product as well as the smart weekly ticket , open to all members of the public, currently scheduled to go on sale from February 2016. This multiple journey ticket offers customers additional flexibility due to the added benefit of the carnet not expiring, so the public can use it as frequently or infrequent as they wish. You can also top up the carnet with additional journeys at any time

Derek Mackay, Minister for Transport said:

“This is a small but significant step in work towards wide-spread delivery of Smart enabled travel products. It is also a good example of what can be achieved by Transport Scotland working successfully in partnership with local authorities and bus operators

“The use of smart technology to enable one card to fulfil many purposes forms part of Transport Scotland’s long term vision for all journeys on Scotland’s bus, rail, ferry, subway and tram networks to be accessed using some form of smart ticketing or payment.

“The Young Scot card has many benefits, with travel being just one. We would encourage school pupils in the area to take advantage of them and to get on board with this ticketing system.”

Eve Coaches Managing Director Gary Scougall welcomes the new scheme, saying:
