Concessionary travel consultation

No change to bus pass age of eligibility

Our consultation on Free Bus Travel for Older and Disabled People and Modern Apprentices closed on 17 November 2017. Just under 3,000 responses were received. Two thirds of the responses stated a preference for the bus pass to remain at age 60. We have considered and listened to the views and have decided that the age of eligibility for a bus pass will not change. It will remain, as it is at present, at age 60.

No changes will be made to passes for disabled people except to extend the scheme to include free bus travel for companions of eligible disabled children under age 5.

Two-thirds of respondents to the consultation concluded that it is right to provide free bus travel for young Modern Apprentices.  They were, however, equally divided on whether this should be limited to those aged under 21. We will, therefore, undertake further research on the Modern Apprentices offer to determine how best to help ease the transition into work for younger people in Scotland.
